One continuing issue is the access gate(s) to let the children into school are being opened later than school policy dictates. In my son’s organizer, that he received the first day of school, it specifically states that the gate(s) will be opened at 07:40 a.m. Since the beginning of this school year 2008-2009 the North yard gate is not being opened until 07:48 a.m. or later because a former principal confiscated the keys to the school from the teachers and staff during her first term. When this former principal was removed from our school, she took the keys with her. Subsequently, only one person is able to open the entry gate(s), one at a time; which is the reason for the delay.

My son along with several other children, are on the meal ticket program and receive their breakfast at school. When the gate is opened late, I am concerned that: 1) the children do not have enough time to get and eat their breakfast before class begins; 2) parents who wait for their children to be safely on campus will be late for work.

* Gate opened by school police, not D.S.E.S. staff.
** Gate NOT opened at all for dismissal. This is completely unacceptable! Parents are waiting for their children at a specified location! When the children have to walk back to the middle gate, then use the sidewalk off campus to walk back to the North gate area to meet their parents and parents are NOT notified in advance, anyone could grab the children off the sidewalk without the parents' or the schools' knowledge!
